At Women's Health, we stand by the belief that you don’t need a partner to experience the benefits of oral sex. Beloved sex toy brands like Lelo, Womanizer, and others have made serious advancements in tongue-mimicking tech, so it's totally possible to enjoy the feeling of someone going down on you—no human mouth required. Many of these toys use air-pulsing, sonic wave technology that feels like an actual tongue sucking and licking your vulva to recreate as much of the sensory experience of oral sex as possible, says Carol Queen, PhD, an award-winning author, activist, and sex educator and the staff sexologist and historian at Good Vibes based in San Francisco.
Oral sex toys primarily stimulate the nerve ending-filled clitoris, which "is made of erectile tissue just like a penis and becomes engorged with blood during sexual arousal," Lyndsey Harper, MD, an OB-GYN and CEO/founder of Rosy, previously told Women's Health. Its only purpose in the body is pleasure, which is why it's so important for producing orgasms. That said, these toys can also be used on the nipples, anus, and even penises, says Wendasha Jenkins Hall, PhD, a sex educator and researcher based in Atlanta, Georgia. The pleasure possibilities are pretty much endless!
To figure out which oral sex toys offer the finest form of faux cunnilingus (say that five times fast), our team of sex editors and contributors spent countless hours testing dozens of vibrators before narrowing down the list to 11 curated recommendations. Here are just a few of our favorite picks:

What To Consider
Design
First things first: If you know you want to receive direct clitoral stimulation through air pressure pulsations, look at a toy's mouth opening size or see if the toy comes with different head sizes so you can customize the fit, Queen says. "For some, the end of the clitoris is quite small, and for others, it's much larger. That's completely normal variation," she explains. One toy may not be guaranteed to fit all clitorises, but many are designed with multiple sizes in mind.
When it comes to the overall shape, make sure the toy is comfortable to hold and that you're able to adjust the settings as you use it, Hall says. (Bonus points if it's easy for another person to use on you, too—especially while you're engaging in partner play!)
Sensations And Settings
Before you *add to cart,* ask yourself what kinds of sensations you like, Hall suggests. Do you enjoy licking or sucking? (If you have the budget, you can pick a toy that does both.) Also, look into how strong the vibrations are, depending on reviews. If your clitoris is more on the sensitive side, you may want to go with a toy with lower intensity. "Think about your sensitivity level, [meaning] your ability to tolerate sensation when you're getting aroused, because that's relevant to which one you might want to pick," Queen says.
Also consider the number of settings and how you will learn to use them. Some toys are very simple, with only one or two buttons, while some are partner-controlled or can be used with an app. Again, Hall suggests asking yourself an important question: "Will I be satisfied with something more streamlined, or do I need a toy with all the bells and whistles?"
Safe Materials
“Some materials are much safer for our bodies than others,” psychologist and sex therapist Laurie Mintz, PhD, author of Becoming Cliterate, previously told Women's Health. Some materials are completely safe—like medical-grade silicone, borosilicate glass, stainless steel, Pyrex, and ABS plastic—while others are porous, like soft rubber. The issue with porous materials is that germs and bacteria can grow on them, causing an infection. (Yes, even if you clean the toy after every use!)
Discretion
Fact: No one's excited about using a vibrator that's super loud—especially if you have kids, roommates, or just thin walls. That's why when we tested these vibrators, we made sure to test all of the levels and take note of the volume. Most of the vibes that made this list are discreet and will allow you to pleasure yourself in near-silence.
Battery
It's important to consider whether you prefer a vibrator that uses batteries or is rechargeable. (Totally up to personal preference, although we tend to prefer the latter!) However, when testing oral sex toys, we also considered both how long each one took to charge and how long they run. (For instance, the Womanizer Premium 2 runs for a whopping 4 hours.)
Price
Sex toys can run the gamut of affordability, but thinking about your goals will help you determine whether a certain vibrator is worth the splurge or if you'd be better off with a more cost-effective option. If you're a beginner, you might want to go with a less expensive toy so you can find out what kind of sensations you like. But if you've got your preferences down pat and think it's time to invest in a more expensive toy with more functions, go for it. Just remember that a toy costing more money doesn't necessarily mean it's associated with better quality, Hall says.
How We Chose The Best Oral Sex Toys
Over the past year, the Women’s Health team of anonymous testers has spent hours testing and reviewing dozens of oral sex toys to curate a list of the bestselling, most popular, and top-rated options. We also consulted sex educators Carol Queen, PhD, Wendasha Jenkins Hall, PhD, sex toy expert Lisa Finn, OB-GYN Lyndsey Harper, MD, and psychologist Laurie Mintz, PhD, for the story.
How to Take Care of Your Oral Sex Toys
Most sex toys, but especially ones made of silicone, are easy to clean, Queen says. All you need to do is wash it with mild soap and warm water after each use, and your toy should be ready to go for next time. (FYI: You may want to avoid antibacterial cleansers, because they can contain triclosan, which can be more harmful than helpful to your sensitive downstairs area, adds Queen.) Make sure your toy is fully dry before you store it away in a drawer, the case it came in, or the bag it came with.
