If you live in a small space, baby gear can start to feel like it’s taking over very quickly. A bouncer in one corner, a play mat in another, toys everywhere... and then you need to find room for a highchair, too.
That’s where the KAOS KLAPP comes into its own. It’s a foldable, ergonomic highchair designed to grow with your baby from the newborn stage right through to childhood (with the right attachments), but crucially, it doesn’t demand permanent floor space. Unlike most highchairs – including the Stokke Tripp Trapp – it folds flat, so you can actually store it away when you’re not using it.
I was also considering the Tripp Trapp, which sits in the same category – long-term, design-led, and built to last. But the KAOS KLAPP edged it for me for two reasons: the fold (the Tripp Trapp doesn’t fold at all) and the weight. It’s noticeably lighter and far easier to move around, which makes a difference when you’re constantly shifting things in a smaller home.
Price-wise, the KAOS KLAPP Complete Bundle appears more expensive at first glance. But once you factor in the extras you need to buy separately with the Tripp Trapp (like the tray and harness), the gap narrows to around £5. At that point, the space-saving design and ease of use make it feel like the smarter investment.
How I tested
I used the KAOS KLAPP highchair daily at home over several months, from the newborn stage. Most of that time was spent in a small flat where space is limited.
In the early days, I used the newborn seat constantly – mainly in the kitchen while I was doing things like unloading the dishwasher, making food or just trying to get a few jobs done while my baby was awake. As they got older, it naturally transitioned into their mealtime setup.

What is the KAOS KLAPP Complete Bundle?
The KAOS KLAPP is a foldable highchair designed to grow with your child from the newborn stage through to childhood. The Complete Bundle includes the newborn seat and baby set, so you can use it from the very beginning rather than waiting until weaning.
It’s built on a step-style design that supports active sitting and natural movement, and it also means older babies can climb in and out by themselves as they get more independent. It comes fully assembled, folds flat in seconds and is made from a mix of recycled plastic and wood fibre, which gives it a softer, more matte finish compared to standard plastic highchairs.
WH rating:
KAOS KLAPP Highchair review: My honest experience
First and foremost, it gave me hands-free time in the kitchen – which is everything in the early days.
In those early weeks, I’d strap the baby into the newborn seat and have them in the kitchen with me while I got small jobs done – unloading the dishwasher, making something quick to eat, even just having a coffee without rushing. I can’t tell you how much of a game-changer this was! My little one was safe and secure – and at my level, so I didn’t have to constantly bend down.
Having them at table height made a difference earlier than I expected
I used the highchair loads at the table before we even got to weaning. I’d pull it up while we were eating so my baby could sit at our level and watch what was going on. It made things feel a bit more settled and meant I could eat without trying to juggle everything. And when it came to weaning, they were already used to being in the chair, so that part didn’t feel like a big transition.
It’s genuinely comfortable – especially with the cushions
When it comes to design, the Scandinavians really know what they’re doing and this product is proof of that. The ergonomic design is absolutely amazing, both aesthetically and, more importantly, in the way it supports your baby. The step-style setup supports their posture properly, so they’re not slumping or sliding around, and once you add the cushions, it feels much more comfortable for longer sits. It feels supportive rather than restrictive, which is what you want as they grow.
The space-saving design is the real selling point if you live in a flat
This is where it properly stands out above the rest for me. Most highchairs just live in your kitchen or living room, and you work around them – and in a small flat, that’s far from ideal. The fact that this folds completely flat means you can actually put it away and get your space back.
Even when it’s out, it’s not overly bulky, so it doesn’t dominate the room in the same way.
It's lightweight but doesn’t feel flimsy at all
It’s surprisingly light – I can move it around one-handed without thinking about it – but it still feels really solid. The material makes a difference here. The mix of recycled plastic and wood fibre gives it a softer, more premium feel than standard plastic, but it’s still practical. It wipes down really easily, which matters once weaning starts, and it doesn’t feel like something you’ll need to replace.
You won’t need to buy another highchair
This is one of those rare baby products that actually grows with your child and isn’t redundant after a few months. You start with the newborn seat, then you simply switch for the standard seat once they're ready to sit unsupported. For me, that made the price make more sense.
The only downside: it’s not the most mess-contained setup
It’s worth knowing that the tray isn’t the biggest, and there’s no under-seat skirt or catch-all, so food can and probably will escape – especially in the early weaning days when everything ends up everywhere.
Ultimately, we all know mealtimes with little ones are messy, but a food catcher could come in handy to avoid bits ending up on the floor.
Is the KAOS KLAPP worth it? The WH verdict
If you live in a small space, this feels like a very smart buy. The KAOS KLAPP goes beyond mealtimes to make everyday life that bit easier: it gives you somewhere safe to put your baby in those early days, brings them up to table height and folds away when you need your space back.
Lightweight yet durable, it genuinely grows with your child and feels built to last. The mess control could be better, but overall, I can’t really fault it – the design is incredibly thoughtful.
