Bodies change—breast shape, size, skin elasticity—and suddenly, the go-to styles that worked a decade ago just don’t deliver the same comfort or support. The good news? There are plenty of bras designed specifically with mature needs in mind, and I’ve found some of the best options to make that search a whole lot easier.

Pros

  • Has higher sides, fuller cups, wider straps, and a smoother back than most bras
  • Made of moisture-wicking fabric
  • Cushioned straps provide no-slide shoulder comfort

Cons

  • Must be hand-washed

For a bra that’s comfortable, well-fitting, and soft, there’s no better option than this Playtex pick. What makes this bra our overall favorite is its comfort-focused design. It’s made with wire-free support, which means it won’t dig into your skin or cause discomfort under your breasts. The unique ‘Lift and Support’ design (which includes rounded cups) will give you a natural lift without the need for underwires, making it ideal for women who might deal with tenderness or sensitivity. Plus, the full-coverage cups make sure your bust is well-supported, which helps reduce strain on the shoulders and back. It also has wide, cushioned straps that distribute weight more evenly.

In terms of comfort, it doesn’t disappoint. It’s made from soft, breathable fabric (nylon, polyester, spandex, and cotton), which means you won’t have to deal with your breasts getting too constricted and sweaty. As for the cherry on top, it has a no-bulge design (thanks to stretchy satin panels), meaning it looks good under clothes, and is ultra comfortable. The one thing to note is that this bra can only be hand-washed, so be sure not to toss it in the washing machine.

Pros

  • Fabric comfortably molds to breast size and shape
  • Convertible straps
  • Very light and breathable

Cons

  • Sized by range (S—3XL) rather than band and cup

Want a budget-friendly bra that doesn’t compromise on comfort and support? We’ve got just the one. At under $20, Hanes' T-shirt bra provides as much comfort and support as bras double its price point. That's because it's made from a lightweight, breathable fabric (hello, nylon and spandex) that feels soft and light, and bra experts we spoke to say it's comfortable enough to wear for hours.

This bra also has a little mesh cutout between the breasts that provides airflow, meaning sweaty boobs are a thing of the past. Additionally, we really like the wireless design that has flexible foam cups to provide ample lift and support. What’s more, the convertible straps don't slide down, which is especially great for women whose shoulders may slope with age..

And, despite its budget-friendly price point, this Hanes favorite doesn’t skimp on functionality. The adjustable, convertible straps are easy to adjust, and the lightly lined foam cups gently shape and support breasts. We will note that the cups can get crinkled inside the inserts if you wash them, so be sure to flatten them out before putting the bra on.

Most Comfortable Bra for Older Women

Wacoal Basic Beauty Spacer Underwire T-Shirt Bra

Basic Beauty Spacer Underwire T-Shirt Bra

Pros

  • Hidden sling in cups for added support and shaping
  • Close-set back straps prevent slipping
  • Back adjustable straps for a customized fit

Cons

  • Can be too big for small busts

There’s nothing better than a truly comfortable bra, and this t-shirt bra is one of the few options that actually feels like you're wearing nothing all day long.

Most bras we reviewed are either breathable or super supportive, but not both. The Wacaol is a welcome expectation. That's because it has a lightweight spacer foam that creates room between the fabric layers for extra airflow, with the added benefit of a super plush feel. Additionally, the smooth cups and seamless design make it ideal for layering under clothes, meaning you can pair this bra with a range of different outfits.

“The camisole straps stay in place, preventing any slipping throughout the day on sloping shoulders, and the underwire design offers reliable support for women who want a bit more structure without sacrificing comfort,” says Butler. Plus, it comes in a ton of sizes and colors. As for its one downfall, it runs a bit big, meaning it might not fit well for those with small busts and, for those with larger busts, you may need to size it down.

Pros

  • Comfortable padded underwire
  • Stretchy cups
  • Easy front-closure

Cons

  • Not available in A cups

Named one of our best front-closure bras, women with limited dexterity or range of motion will love how easy it is to put on and take off this bra. Plus, the lace adds a touch of sexiness but isn't textured enough to show through your clothes.

In addition to the easy front-closure design, it’s also super comfortable. The brand's "WonderWire" (an ultra-padded underwire) prevents poking and digging while giving just the right amount of lift and support. The wide straps help distribute weight across your shoulders evenly, and they’re set close together to prevent them from slipping throughout the day. We also love the unlined, stretchy cups for a barely-there feel and breathable coverage.

The straps are fully adjustable, and the bra comes in sizes ranging from 30B to 48G, making it easy to find your perfect fit. However, if your chest is on the smaller side, just be aware this bra doesn’t come in A cup sizes.

Pros

  • Ergonomic design in order to reduce shoulder and neck pain
  • Can customize with the help of removable cups
  • Wide, comfortable straps distribute weight evenly

Cons

  • Must be pulled on, so not ideal for people with limited mobility

Designed with the needs of fuller busts in mind, this bra has a special construction that offers a great amount of support without sacrificing comfort. The design includes wide, adjustable straps that help distribute weight evenly, which minimizes strain on the shoulders and neck. On top of that, the bra's flexible cups adapt to the natural shape of the bust, giving you a secure, cozy fit.

Butler loves this bra for women over 50 because it offers the perfect balance of support and all-day comfort. She says that its full-coverage design ensures a smooth, flattering shape without any spillage, while the thick, seamless straps stay in place even for mature shoulders that naturally slope with age. And, best of all, there’s no digging into sensitive underbust tissue, making it a perfect blend of comfort and support. And, best of all, there’s no digging into sensitive underbust tissue.

This bra is super unique with its pullover design, meaning you don’t have to worry about securing any clasps. However, this can be hard if you have limited mobility, so be sure to consider if you can comfortably put this bra on before purchasing. Another quality we like? This bra has antimicrobial protection and moisture-wicking properties that keep it clean. But, when it does get dirty, feel free to toss it in the washing machine and lay it flat to dry.

Most Stylish Bra for Older Women

Chantelle Révèle Moi Perfect Fit Underwire Bra

Révèle Moi Perfect Fit Underwire Bra

Pros

  • Unlined underwire cups give natural lift without the added padding
  • U-shaped back helps to take weight off shoulders
  • Double-lined mesh band subtly smooths back and sides

Cons

  • It’s best to avoid wearing this bra more than twice between washings, which means you might wash it more often than other bras

“As women age, their needs change, but women should not need to sacrifice style for a comfortable and supportive bra that makes them feel good,” says Gesualdi. As for the bra that achieves this? The Chantelle Révèle Moi Perfect Fit Underwire Bra.

We find that this lightweight, semi-sheer lace bra is both feminine and functional, giving you the best of both worlds. The lace design on the cups and small bow detailing is subtle yet sexy. It features unlined underwire cups with mesh at both the top and sides for a natural shape and comfortable lift, all while ensuring you have full coverage. Under a tailored outfit, this bra offers both comfort and style.

What to Consider

Sizing and Fit

“As we age, our breasts often change shape, even if our measurements technically stay the same,” says Emma Butler, CEO of bra company Liberare. “Our breasts can become softer or more pendulous, which makes finding the right bra feel even trickier in an already confusing space.” A well-fitting bra should provide a good amount of support without digging into your skin or leaving marks, and Butler says to start with the band before moving on to the cups.

  • Band: “The band is the foundation of the bra,” Butler says. This is where the bulk of the support comes from, which is key for older women looking for lift and hold. A good rule of thumb? You should be able to slip two fingers comfortably under the band, but not much more. Also, prioritize bras with an adjustable band (and straps!), so you can customize the fit to your exact body shape.
  • Cups: Once the band feels right, it’s time to examine the cups. “They should lie flat against your chest with no gaping or spilling over,” Butler says. “For older women in particular, I often recommend unlined bras paired with a supportive band. This allows breast tissue to sit naturally in the cup, giving a smoother look under clothes.” Padding can sometimes create gaps near the top of the bra, which can be frustrating when you want a flat, seamless silhouette.

Materials

When it comes to selecting a bra, materials play a big role in both comfort and durability. “Though each woman has her own preferences, many opt for soft, breathable materials in their bras,” says Maeve Gesualdi, bra specialist at Glamorise.

  • Cotton: “Bras made of cotton fabrics provide comfortable, breathable support throughout the day,” Gesualdi says. Cotton also adds softness to a bra, making it especially great for sensitive skin.
  • Polyester: Gesualdi also says to consider bras made of moisture-wicking fabrics that help to wick away sweat for extra cooling comfort, like polyester. These features come in handy as they can help manage changes in body temperature that often occur with age, including those caused by menopause or hormonal fluctuations.
  • Spandex: Also known as elastane, this is a lightweight, stretchy fabric that will give your bra that snappy, elastic feel. Bras with some stretch can also help accommodate natural fluctuations in breast size and shape, giving you a more adaptable and comfortable fit, Gesualdi says.
  • Nylon: “Choosing bras with seamless designs or smooth textures is important to avoid chafing, especially if you have sensitive skin or spend long hours in a bra,” says Gesualdi. Nylon is a material that gives any bra a smooth, lightweight feel while helping the bra lie flat under clothes, which is key for that seamless look.

Straps or Closures

“Many women experience reduced mobility or dexterity as they age,” says Butler. “The days of wriggling into back hooks or squirming over-the-head bras often become a real challenge for many women.” When searching for a bra that is comfortable for all-day wear and is easy to put on and take off, consider some of the following features:

  • Wide, padded straps: Butler says that wider straps are a “must-have,” because they distribute weight more evenly and won’t dig into your shoulders. Straps with extra padding also make them more comfortable to wear for longer periods of time. Front-facing strap adjusters are also a big bonus, allowing you to easily customize the length of your straps without reaching behind you or having to remove the bra.
  • Front closures: “I encourage women at any age to try front-closure bras, but they’re especially game-changing after menopause,” Butler says. “Hooking a bra behind your back or pulling one over your head gets more difficult as mobility changes.” Front closure bras make dressing faster, simpler, and far less strenuous.
  • Wireless designs: Breast tissue often becomes more sensitive with age, Butler says. That’s why underwires that may not have bothered us before can suddenly feel painful or uncomfortable with age. Butler says to consider wireless bras, specifically those with a firm, wide band, supportive straps, and fabric with a bit of stretch. A bra like this will give you both lift and shape, without the discomfort of wires.
